| Human society has always been under the domination of patriarchical ideology andanthropocentrism, stressing the values of human society but belittling the value of nature.Patriarchical ideology advocates exploitation and ruling of nature, which leads to the ecologicalcrisis and threatens the survival of human society. Feminists, in the fight against patriarchicalculture and the pursuit of women’s liberation, have gradually recognized that there is a closerelationship between men’s domination over women and humans’ domination over nature. Bothforms of domination are rooted in the western ideology which is based on value-dualism,hierarchic thinking and the logic of domination, that is,“the suppressive conceptual frameworkâ€which is put forward by Karen Warren.Drawing on Karen Warren’s ecological philosophy, the thesis analyzes Alice Walker’snovel Now Is the Time to Open Your Heart in terms of the suppressive conceptual frameworkThe purpose of this analysis is to reveal Walker’s ecofeminist ideas by exploring her presentationof the relationship between ecological crisis and human civilization, her attempt to deconstructthe value-dualism, hierarchic thinking and the logic of domination in order to reconstruct theecofeminist ideal of the survival whole. |
