Robert Penn Warren (1905----1989), a versatile writer, was with so manyidentities, such as the literary critic, poet, novelist, biographer, and literature professor, also an important poet of the Fugitives, the main advocator and conveyor of the "newcriticism",and physiocrat. All his life he gained almost all the prizes of the UnitedStates. He was thought to be " the most important American poet the late20thcentury".This thesis unscrambles Warren’s poems from the ecological point of view, andanalyses the ecology features from the relationship between animal and man, landscapeand man, and climate and man. The author thinks that the animals in Warren’s poemsare the parts of nature, at the same time are the reflection of humanity. Thus make theanimal poems with the meaning of enlightening and recovering good, revising evil. The landscape in Warren’s poetry is not only the demands of deposituming emotions, but also the carrier of the poet’s life state. It is not only the pursuing to the life meaning, but in the meantime, shows the lost and uncertainty of life. In the aspect of therelationship of men and climate, Warren has a special point of view. He often uses aformulation that is different from the usual climate. These deeds arouse people to havemore introspection to the description of season and climate, and then sublimate fromthe objectivity to the subjectivity. Part Four of the thesis analyses the poet’s view ofnature. The poet thinks that though the things in the nature have their laws ofprosperity and decline by men’s scrutinizing and experiences to the nature, but naturealso contains the eternity. Nature is the teacher of the human beings and the comforterof men. Nature promotes the individuals, and makes a person from the narrow to thebroad. The images in Warren’s poetry let us feel wide, extensive and multidimensional. However, few researchhas been conducted on Warren’s poems from the perspective ofthe relationship between human and nature. Research into Penn Warren’ poetry fromthe ecological point of view is a supplement to the research of Warren at present.Unscrambling the ecological elements in Warren’s poems not only lets us realize therelationship between man and nature deeply, nature’s enlightenment to man, but also deepens the human’s thoughts to man’ destiny under this big nature context. It also hasmuch significance to the harmony of man and nature that our country is now strivingfor.
