It has been approximately40years since the advent of cognitive poetics, which was established in1970s by Reuven Tsur, who was dedicated to applying the relevant research fruits of cognitive science to literature critics. As a freshly-new subject, cognitive poetics is still on the way to the full fledge without a complete and systematic theory frame, not to mention the conceptual blending theory, initiated first by Fauconnier, which owns a forceful explanatory power. The latest researchers are devoted to spreading, developing and applying conceptual blending theory. With these researchers’contribution, we assume that conceptual blending theory does provide a scientific and systematic framework for further studies. The present research on cognitive poetics bogs down only on introducing the theory, and the explanation for the blending process is barely satisfactory. The focus of our precedents has almost been laid upon solely the conceptual blending theory, or merely the understanding of Chinese discourse. So the momentous issue worth attention is the fabulous explanatory procedure with the aid of conceptual blending theory in interpreting. Independent and irrelevant as they seem to be, the author means to fuse the two into a marvelous integration. What is more, the blending operations involved concerning the process know no boundary, so it is also the target to subdivide the methodology according to the diversified poems so as to create an emergent structure or a creative meaning in detail. In this way we can be familiar with the meaning construction process, also dubbed as an interdisciplinary research. This thesis, as a tentative study, draws on the framework of conceptual blending theory in cognitive poetics to interpret classic Chinese poems and lyrics. The intending fruits are to interpret the process of meaning construction and the invisible blending operations in poetic discourse within the framework of conceptual blending theory. Especially what is worth mentioning is the detailed mapping and blending procedures in bringing about the anticipated results since it is meant to be categorized into three levels. By going over the whole paper, readers can get an overall view of an approach for classic Chinese poetic discourse analysis from the perspective of conceptual blending theory. It is termed as an outstanding achievement of interdisciplinary study. The paper provides a platform for poetic appreciation or poetic discourse analysis and makes an attempt to integrate domestic and foreign linguistic researches. The most remarkable breakthrough can be nothing but the skillful appreciation procedure, as well as the detailed classification of the studies. Simultaneously, conceptual blending theory, gem of the cognitive poetics, is also one part of western poetics. So this paper, as an attempt at the localization of western poetic theories, owns its practical and theoretical value. The localized traditional poems and imported latest western theories can complement with each other in a mutually beneficial way.
