Manipulated Drama Translation

Drama has got unpopular and less attended to while Media as Television and Internetenjoying their popularity since late1990s. And Drama Translation Studies, one part ofLiterature Translation, has also once gone unheeded due to its own complicity andassociation with multiple disciplines. Nevertheless, starting from the early21stcentury,Drama Translation is gaining gradual attention from the Translation StudiesCommunity. Ying Ruocheng’s significant role in Beijing People’s Theatre has madethe study on Ying’s drama translations more worthwhile. This research also hopes toenrich translators’ translation practice. This research takes Andre Lefevere’s“Manipulation” Theory as its main theory frame. Main body of the paper consists of abrief introduction of research method and background, a snapshot of ManipulationSchool and Andre Lefevere works, as well as extensive analyses of drama textswritten by Ying. Through detailed comparison and analysis of different texts, thispaper seeks to verify that the Patrons and Ideologies of the society Ying Rongchenglived in had greatly Manipulated his translation activities.In addition, this paper seeks to be innovative by:(1) Making an all-round analysis of Ying’s English-Chinese Translation Works;(2) Covering the elements set by Andre Lefevere;(3) Taking “Accentuation” into this research’s purview.
