A Study On The Han Nationality’s Traditional Costume In Taozhou, Gansu Province

Taozhou is located in the south of Gansu province in China, and the local Han nationality’straditional costume is simple and plain and has distinctive ethnic culture characteristics.Obviously, it is a materialized symbol of Han migration culture in northwest China, and atreasure for Han nationality’s costume culture. As things changed in the past six hundred years,The Han costume in TaoZhou was influenced by the local natural environment and peripheralnational dress, and effected by stationed army troops and JiangNan costume in Ming dynasty.For these reasons, the local Han nationality’s traditional costume has formed clear appearanceidentification characteristics, and provides one of the most important ways to understand socialand cultural development of TaoZhou.This paper was divided into five chapters. From the macroscopic perspective, the first chaptersummarized the natural and social environment of the whole situation in Lintan county andZhuoni county, in Tibetan autonomous region of south of Gansu province, where the Hannationality of Taozhou live. Besides, its history origin was also introduced in this part. Based onhistorical materials, the second chapter described evolution and styles since Ming and Qingdynasties of Han nationality’s costume of Taozhou. The third chapter focused on the presentsituation of Han nationality’s costume of Taozhou. The fourth chapter contrasted the differencesbetween current Han nationality’s traditional costume of Taozhou and that of Ming and Qingdynasties, and between the former and peripheral national costume from the longitudinal andtransverse aspects. This paper also explored the influential factors that affect the evdution of Hannationality’s traditional costume in Taozhou. Through analysis and summarization, the fifthchapter concluded the cultural characteristics of Han costume of TaoZhou, and provided personalviews on its forming factors. It is hoped that this paper could make a small effort for the traditional costume culture research and relational protection work.
