The costume art of Han Dynasty is a golden period in China's ancient history, In this period, the costume mold-making, decorative pattern, the printing and spinning and the material application which are all reaching to perfect. This paper shows us a general view of the costume in Han Dynasty, on purpose of giving a correct understanding of the costume art of Han Dynasty from the point of view by talking about the design elements, the artistic style, the social and cultural background, the political ideology feature and so on.In this thesis, I will firstly analyze the historical background of the popularity of finery in Han Dynasty as well as the unprecedented development of politics and culture. The main points are the patterns, the art styles in the design of finery. Then, I am to examine the social background of the finery in Han Dynasty, my view will focus on the cultural conceptions, the expression of art, the influence of the Han finery on the contemporary clothing in China. All of these are the main purposes of this thesis. At the end of my thesis, I take the Han finery as the interest point to give a deeper illustration of the art value of Han finery.To sum up, the thesis supports from archaeological documents, that is aiming at studying the notion and development in fashion designs, I also want to spread the finery beauty of Han Dynasty, to push on the heritance and development of Han finery forward to promote the traditional Chinese culture.
