As a highly directive kind of medium, art has been existing for quite a long time:from pre-cultural epoch to modern society. Since the beginning of human cultivation, art serves as a guide in the field of ideology, which points at every aspect of social lifeand industry. Acting as a special community in the society, artists polish their attitudes, emotions, thoughts and behaviors. According to the class and social environment theylive in, artists show their purposes and ideas via literature, brushwork, music, poetry, dancing and any other possible forms intentionally or unintentionally. Meanwhile, phenomena created by the society gain interior and exterior exposure from artists withall kinds of expressive methods. Art is restricted by the certain period when it existswhile the values and emotions of artists are limited to the historical condition at thesame time. Art derives from the society, originates from practice, and receives socialresonance reversely by facing to the community. Thus, the valuation of artists existsaccording to the social pattern surrounding them.In the20thcentury, the whole society is immersed in a postmodern culturalatmosphere. Especially, the postmodern art in the interval between1970s and1980s,which lasts until now, is a shock to the whole modern cultural system. The transferfrom modern art to postmodern art is a revolution in the art field, in which thetraditional principles of art creation and appreciation are overturned and the growth ofpublic art in social lives is generated. Compared with the previous work, postmodernart is more exposed to the society and public lives. Artists begin to bring art back toeveryday lives and more people begin to accept, appreciate and participate in theconstruction of modern art. It is a peerless progress to expand the art-appreciationclass, which results in a strong shock to the traditional western class ideology.‘Counter Culture Movements’ seems to be a rebellious event born in such anenvironment, which involves every aspect of social economic and political life. The1960s is a time when revolutions and campaigns took place one after another:women-liberation campaign, black-right campaign, anti-war campaign, environmentalcampaign, rock-and-roll, hip-hop, hippie, sexual liberation and etc. In such an epochfilled with so many ideas, people think and participate in the campaigns, meanwhileinitiate revolutions. It is the progress of history. Postmodern and post modernism aremixed together, which lasts until now as a ‘state’ of human society. Though the mostrefulgent age is between1960and1970, its aftereffect does shock the modern society at times. As a branch of postmodern art, doodling leads a trend which is a part ofpostmodern ideas. Its supportive spirit is the anti-tradition-cultural idea system.Doodling originated during the social trend of revolution. The prerequisites ofdoodling make it inevitably be agitated into the eddy of age, which results in a strongpolitical tint. However, with the decline of revolution age, doodling loses its sharpedges and vacillate in the political and commercial world. The subject of doodling is wide: large as international events and small as socialcontradiction, doodlers paint all kinds of issues. The current environment for socialproduction and living is relatively stable, but contradictions and minor warsoccasionally take place. Doodlers show their rebellion to these social events. Theywill pay attention to and criticize all kinds of generalized but negative issues withtheir effects in the area of ethics, culture, living, art, politics, education, religion andrace. These actions do play a positive role. The social significance of doodling is thesilent censure to the society, and the attraction for the public to focus on and thinkabout various kinds of social problem.Since its birth, doodling has been entangled with politics. Politics restrictsdoodling, while doodling influences politics back. It seems hard for doodling to shockor overturn politics, nor is it impossible for doodling to destroy or obstacle the generalpolitical trend. However, doodling is enough to call up public attention. Citizens arethe paramount part of the society, who think of political problems via doodling. All isthe circulation of art, politics and human beings.
