Fresco is one of the most special artistic styles because it is painted onto the wall of the building,becomes a part of that building and decorates and beautifies the building,and because human being started to make fresco in its primitive age.For instance,cliff painting in Inner Mongolia can be regarded as the earliest one in China.The most influential fresco in art history must be Mexico frescos whose artistic value is not only a brilliant pearl in world art history,also possesses power and influence in political propaganda.Mexico people awakened after being colonized for hundred years.They did not only fight against Spanish government in various ways and various degrees,but also developed a grand and spectacular,but silent revolt in artistic field that is the famous Mexico Fresco Movement.On the walls of many public buildings,such as buildings on public squares,subway station,museums and even walls of apartments,you can appreciate paintings by masters,which makes Mexico city a capital of fresco.Many famous artists grow up because of Mexico Fresco Movement.Three representatives are Rivera,Orozco and Siqueiros.Its characteristic is its national.Its theme is about Mexico traditional legends,the past and present of Mexican people.Its style is colorful and powerful.For instance,the wonderful work is painted by Rivera on the wall of central stairs in National Palace.The painting depicts more than 1000 people,shows the quiet and happy social life of Indian people before Spain colonizes Mexico and tragic life and continuous revolt after being colonized.The whole painting works like a historic book in pictures,tells a truth wordlessly.Appreciating frescos here equals to reading history books,which embodies the deep significance in history.There are many wall paintings in Belfast Northern Ireland far away from Mexico.However these wall paintings were drawn on the walls of building along both sides of several specific streets,and belonged to two opposite political camps which made wall paintings as their arms or propaganda tools to spread their political ideas and show their justice.I collected many materials on the study of Mexico fresco and Belfast wall painting,analyzed the social background,artists,art styles and social function and summarized the social political function of frescos in two countries.Namely,we can read author's political position after the careful comparison and analysis.The paper is divided into five sections,including introduction and conclusion.Chapter one shows the significance and methods of the study.Chapter two mainly describes Mexico fresco campaign and Northern Ireland wall paintings.The third chapter three analyzes and compares artistic styles and social historic function of frescos in two countries.
