Salon culture which came from Italy was in full prosperity in18th France. As one of the most important social institutions of the Enlightenment, salon was a place where people exchanged information and thoughts, engaged in academic discussions and brewed Revolution. Almost each famous salon had a solonniere, and some famous solonnieres in18th Century included Madame Geoffrin, Mademoiselle de Lespinasse, Madame Necker, etc. Rich, free, serious, and magic, salonnieres had the conditions to open a salon. They were both the heroine and walking lady in salons. The salons held by salonnieres gained three advantages, to themselves, to guests who attended salons and to the society. In Revolution, salons and solonnieres became political, at the same time, solonnieres showed their political talents. Though, the act that solonnieres participated in political activities consorted with the historical background, one thing must be admitted that their activities laid the basis for women’s awaking and the improvement of their social status.
