Students’ability to understand by listening significantly demonstrates their ability to use a foreign language. The listening teaching is one of important course of vocational college English teaching. While it’s quite hard for students to rapidly improve their listening skills due to poor basis in middle school and traditional grammar translation method in teaching process. So, how to improve students’English listening ability is a subject in urgent need of research in reforms of vocational college English teaching.The studying of students is one of cognitive behaviors, so meta-cognitive strategy training will positively advance their studying. The teaching method plays an important role in studying course. Meta-cognitive strategy training ask teacher pay attention to improve students’learning initiative, self-studying ability, and use mother language to make analysis and comparison in teaching course. The teaching target, teaching content, teaching form and teaching procedure of behavior-cognition teaching were discussed this dissertation. This study was based on the questionnaire and teaching experiment carried out for16weeks for70non-English students in Hunan Vocational and Technical college of Water Resource and Hydro Power, with behavior-cognition approach. The purpose of the experiment was to enhance the awareness of students’ autonomy and encourage them to control their studies.To achieve a quantitative result, this study used Independent-Samples T Test and SPSS12.0to analyze data. The statistic result showed that there was positive correlation between the applications of meta-cognitive strategy with the improvement of the listening ability of the experimental class students. Through quantitative and qualitative analyses, this dissertation considered that the meta-cognitive strategy training could simulate students’motivation, improve their level of English listening.
