On The Representation Of Aesthetics In The Steps Of Biancheng’s English Translation

The Biancheng is the masterpiece of Shen Congwen who is a litterateur from mainland China.It is known as "a historic jade without any wear". The novel has a rich aesthetic value, its style reflects the remarkable characteristics of gentle and quiet artistic conception, implicit and deep temperament and interest, rural lyrics atmosphere. Therefore, it is appreciated as "exquisite pastoral". The Biancheng has permanent artistic glamour because of its unique style. In the light of this, the study of aesthetic value for the novel translation is of great significance.Although there are some achievements in the study of Biancheng conducted by domestic and foreign scholars, only a few systematic and further studies of the translation. In view of this, I try to conduct a comprehensive and systematic study from the perspective of translation aesthetics of this works. In this paper, the object of study refers to the edition written by Shen Congwen, translated by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Margaret Tayler and published by Yilin Press in2009. The study and analysis of the translation is conducted from the perspective of translation aesthetics and based on their own translation practice. Firstly, the paper introduces Shen Congwen and the Biancheng, together with the translation of Biancheng and the translators. What’s more, the paper reviews the translation aesthetics. Meanwhile, by combining the aesthetic features shown in the original text of Biancheng and the translation, the paper describes the aesthetic reproduction steps of the literary translation in detail, and also probes into the art representation of aesthetic implication of the translation by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Margaret Tayler in terms of beautiful creation and artistic conception involved in the aesthetic translation concept. In addition, I’m also involved in the translation practice and analysis of the reproduction of the translation for the Biancheng, and also conduct a further study and analysis of the aesthetic reproduction steps of literary translation.Whether the translation can successfully shows the language charm in the language context of the translation or not basically depends on whether the translation can reappear the aesthetic value of the original text. So how to reappear the aesthetic style shown in the picturesque artistic conception becomes a big challenge facing the translators. This paper tries to analyze the translation of Biancheng from the perspective of aesthetic reproduction steps and based on my own translation practice, so as to prove that translation aesthetics is a theory which can be implemented and be able to introduce translation discipline. There is a certain kind of relationship between many aesthetics issues and aesthetic standards, understanding of the aesthetic standard characteristic can guide the translation practice and appreciate the aesthetic elements, and also make aesthetic criticism on the translation.
