Study On The Exegesis Of The Historical Note Of Tang And Five Dynasties

Note is a common style of ancient Chinese literature. In the earliest time, the note as a kindof literary style is relative with the poem and the prose poem. It originated in the Han Dynasty.But people began to call it note in the Six Dynasties. After Wei and Jin Dynasties, Chineseancient note developed quickly. The Tang Dynasty was an important stage in the development ofnote, and various types of notes appeared a lot in this stage. According to incomplete statistics,there should be more than200. Moreover the note of Tang and the Five Dynasties has importantsignificance in the history of ancient Chinese Note, especially the historical notes. It not only hashistorical value, but also is valuable in the study of linguistics and literature.Based on arranging the exegetical materials, which were found from the note of Tang andFive Dynasties, we will analyze the content and method of exegesis in detail. Also we analyzeand discuss the interpretations of some words to supplement The Chinese Dictionary.This thesis is divided into five parts:The introduction part mainly introduces the definition and characteristic of note and noteexegesis, also summarizes the historical background and research value of the historical note ofTang and Five Dynasties. At the same time, we analyze its research status.The first chapter divides this chapter into denoting word, phonetic notation, distinguishingcharacter, explaining sentence, illustrating rhetoric, and demonstrating reference, etc.The second chapter analyzes the methods of these exegetical materials from two angles formethods to find the meaning and definition methods.The third chapter discusses the values on compiling a dictionary. Scholars of the ChineseDictionary used many materials in the notes of Tang and Five Dynasties to explain words. Butstill a large number of valuable materials had been ignored. Therefore we make a contrastbetween the Chinese Dictionary and the historical notes of Tang and Five Dynasties, which coulddisplay and supplement The Chinese Dictionary.The conclusion part summarizes the full text, and emphasizes the value of the historicalnote of Tang and Five Dynasties.Note is a very important type of literature in ancient China. The historical note of Tang andFive Dynasties also has great values on the research of Linguistics. I wish more scholars willrealize the importance of note from this thesis, and do more study on the historical note of Tang and Five Dynasties.
