Pearl S.Buck is the first American woman writer to have won the Noble Prize forLiterature by depicting China.She had lived in China for nearly40years. Pearl S.Buck is a cultural hybrid who grew in the cross-cultural background,in her,both theeastern tradition and western spirit.However,two different Chinese and Westernculture is always in the inner world of the Pearl S.Buck collision,the communicationand seek the ultimate harmony.The dual influence of Chinese and Western culture makes Pearl S.Buck culturalmarginal identity,this dual identity to enable her to a fusion of Chinese and Westernideological objective and impartial view of the people and things around,but alsomakes her ambivalent pain on her own identity.Therefor,she has portrayed charactersWang Yuan she had the ideal identity in the novel Separation,Wang Yuan and PearlS.Buck had a similar life experiences,similar to the emotional experience and similarcultural background.Not only that,Pearl S.Buck also wrote autobiographies toconfirm the identity,that is to become a beyond ethnic and racial East-West culturalexchange practitioner.She spread of Chinese culture and do for Chinese social welfareundertakings,two worlds are to a certain extent,unified the Pearl S.Buck heart hadsplit,compensation of her inner desire to return to China and not shortcomings andregrets.Secondly,as a woman writer,Pearl S.Buck,a deep understanding of Chinesewomen in the Chinese and Western cultures in collision,more touches to their spirituallevel,and creates a different image of the ideal woman in this social transitionperiod.The common point of these women are able to draw on the merit,and open the door for two different culture communication.While in the The Proud Heart,in theshape of the ideal woman is Pearl S.Buck pursuit of self-portrayal andself-recognition.Again,came from a missionary family of Pearl S.Buck,do not agree with thefather missionary way out of the actual needs of the people,nor sacrifice his ownhappiness as the mother as dedicated to religious,but became a devout earthlypreachers.she believes that the reasons for the failure of the spread of Christianity inChina in Modern is not take into account the actual needs of the Chinese people atthat time,and with the nature of aggression,and finds that the Chinese people can onlybelieve in Jesus only God,and she believes that true religion is tolerant,that "all menare brothers"of religion expression in the novel Peony.
