Listening and speaking is the most basic language skills in Chinese language teaching,the teaching reform of Chinese modern university mainly emphasizes training listening andspeaking skills instead of training the traditional reading skills. Therefore, the authorsuggested that we should let the students adopt an effective teaching method----shadowingwhich can greatly enhance students’ listening and speaking skills synchronously. This kind ofteaching method has already been used in English teaching, but it is only restricted to Englishteaching.Therefore, This research conduct a listening and speaking experimental lesson aiming atsenior Chinese learners, which is to prove that the shadowing can improve the senior Chineselearners’ listening and speaking level.The first chapter discusses the background and purposes of the selected topic, theexisting related research status, the research methods of this paper and the introduction aboutthe content. Chapter2firstly introduces the importance of listening and speaking skills, thecorrelation between listening and speaking, and then it discusses the concept,characteristics,effect of shadowing; finally it puts forward the strategic guidance of shadowing. Based on theabove theories, this paper expounds the role which shadowing played in teaching listeningand speaking. The third chapter explains the research method of this paper, set the experimentobject, tools, teaching plans of the listening and speaking experimental lesson. Chapter foursums up the research results of this paper. Through the questionnaire and analysis ofexperimental results I made, this paper reveals the necessity and feasibility of shadowingusing in classroom teaching. And the experimental results prove that shadowing really works.The fifth chapter is the summary of the whole paper, in this part it not only review the maincontent of the whole paper, but also points out limitations of this study and put forward thesuggestions for authors’ further research.This paper not only re-examined the effect shadowing played in teaching, but also applythis method to college Chinese listening and speaking lessons. In addition, this paper givesexamples about how shadowing works.
