The Value And Limitation Of The Network Literature

Since the network came into China in1990s, it popularized day by day. The network has changed and influenced people’s life from all of the aspects. Literary activities, as one of many social activities, are inevitably influenced by the network in writing, reading, publish. Many domestic scholars find the literary activities influenced by the network are very different from the impression of literature, and call them the network literature. Now the literature is not only related with the paper, pens, book. The network literature is developing rapidly, and has become a can which should not be avoided in literature research.We can compare the network literature with the traditional literature, which is undoubtedly the best view of the research of the network literature. Compared with the traditional literature, network literature has new characteristics in the way the works show, the way authors and readers communicate and the author’s creation mentality, which many scholars have mentioned in many research works. But between the network literature and the traditional literature, the common is more than the different. Although the media which network literature uses is different from the traditional literature, essentially it is the literature, a spiritual activity which human carry out by using the Internet and the object of human essence force. The novel form of the network literature and the challenge to the literary theory can not isolate the connection between the network literature and the traditional literature on the theme, language and image. Besides, the network literature and the traditional literature is related in the creative process and the subjectivity of creator and criticism.Scholars have different viewpoints on the network literature. Some scholars think that the network literature is the real literature, and is the future of literature. Some scholars think that the network literature is not literature, and the network is full of garbage. This paper thinks the value and limitation of the network literature deeply with the objective attitude. The value of network literature can be found in three aspects. Firstly the network literature highlights the spirit of freedom. Secondly the network literature highlights the commercial value of literature. Lastly the network literature provides a choice where different art styles may connect. This paper not only lists the limitation of the network literature which many scholars have mentioned, but also analyses the reason. Facing the value and limitation of the network literature, if we want to protect the literature and make the literature develop harmoniously with the network, we must do our beast to improve the quality of the literature, to change our understanding about the network literature, and strengthen the communication between the network literature and the traditional literature.
