The Presentation And Application Of Chinese Elements In Western Movies

Movies Transmission refers to the social activities which transmit cultural entertainment information through movies as the media. It is the intermediate link of combining the production and consumption of the movies and realizing the operation of social mechanism. Along the history of development of Western movies, the directors never ceased their attempts on putting Chinese cultural elements into Western Screens. From unconscious mixing the elements originally to imitating consciously, finally comprehend it to the real extent; it had caused the combination and co-existence of Eastern and Western culture. The whole process is a process of confronting the cultural difference when transmitting culture through the movies, integrating and reforming the cultural factors based on the comprehension of culture. And it is also an inevitable trend of the way of developing multi-culture for the Western Countries even the world.The main thread of the thesis is the Chinese elements on Western screens; Firstly, this paper, by taking the image demonstration of Chinese elements in western movies as the main clue, chronologically introduced the image demonstration in western movies of different periods, and analyzed the major changes after the year2000, thus found out its reason and the influence to the Chinese cultural transmission. Secondly, by combining related theories with case study, this paper then analyzed in a comparative way about the different demonstrations of the same elements, including the same character, same story, same value in China and western movies. Through these differences and respective features, found out the reasons and implications of the effective cultural transmission of western countries through movie media. Then combining this conclusion with teaching Chinese as the foreign language and specific field of cross-culture activities through movie media, thus analyzed the application of such methods in the teaching activities and cultivation of TCSL teachers competence. In the end, this paper put forward some implications and suggestions of this cross-cultural activity through movie media.The innovation of the thesis lies in two aspects:firstly, from the perspective of transmitting languages and culture, the author systematically analyzed the process of using Chinese elements in western movies and the influential factors. By comparing and analyzing the Chinese movies, the author states the different presentations of one Chinese culture in Chinese and western movies and the reasons and implications. It can help us to comprehend the basic features and regulations of natively reforming Chinese cultural elements based on the comprehension of culture in western movies.Secondly, the author raised a question and a suggestion on video resources in TCSL and cross-cultural transmission activities by means of Chinese movies. The author also raised a recommendation on choosing video resources in TCSL, teaching methods and the requirements on teachers which is of constructive significance.
