Research On The Combinations Of Metaphors In Li Yu’s Poetries

The foundation of Cognitive Linguistics remains a crucial concern on HumanCognition. With a main focus on semanteme, the construction of the subject systemembraces a coming completeness. Analysis of Chinese Mandarin with CognitiveLinguistics has achieved profuse progresses, since it concerns more on semantemethan other Schools of Linguistics, which is coincident with the nature characteristicsof Chinese Mandarin. Recently, the study of Cognitive Metaphor has remained apopular topic among linguists, of which Image Metaphor has been considered as themajor metaphor in poetry. This paper analyzes poetic metaphor as well as itscombinations in Li Yu’s35poetries collected in a particular book of his mainmasterpieces, within the theory of Cognitive Lingustics. The function mechanism andintegration regulations of Image Metaphor enable a construction of metal space, foremotion especially, to be put to effect through emotion mappings in it, of which wholeprocess is under the influence of Cognitive Context. Image Metaphor itself can bedivided into two groups: consistent combination and inconsistent ones. As far asCognitive Context is concerned, the two groups could be cotext-centered andcontext-acentric ones. In a broad point of view, Cognitive Context includes culturebackground and author information as well, all of which cast effects on rhetoricalfunctioning and construction of artistic mood.
