With the rapid development of urbanization, the competition between cities is becoming increasingly fierce. The competition based on economic gradually extended to the city soft power competition, and began to focus on the city’s soft power which is the portraying of the city’s image.The promo of the city’s image is one mean to show the city. It attracts more and more attention as a way of transmitting the city’s image. In practice, it has been used and imitated by many cities. In recent years, the number of the promo is growing fast but it is still not ideal in many of those promo in the aspect of the expression of the picture.Although the promos of city image come into being in large numbers, the theoretical study of China’s city promo is still rare. It is even less in the perspective of aesthetic theory to analyse this issue. Both from the theoretical and practical point of view, there is a need to analyse and put the aesthetic value of the promo of the city’s image in order. Meanwhile, adding traditional Chinese aesthetic theory to dig up and explore more about it. Thus, we need a re-understanding of the aesthetic value of the promo of the city’s image, Keeping its entertaining features as well as digging up its unique aesthetic values.In this thesis, the author selects25representative Chinese city’s promo as the study sample. The sample covers four municipalities,14provincial capital cities, two sub-provincial cities, three prefecture-level cities and two Special Administrative Region. Based on the analysis of those samples, the thesis starts with the definition of the style of he promo of the city’s image, analyzing the screen aesthetic values of the promo and digging it up. The author probes into the compromise between aesthetic value and aesthetic acceptance. Finally provides his thinking and gives advices on the promo of the city’s image. That is, it needs the joint effort of both the composers and the appreciators in order to promote the standard of the promo of the city’s image. To increase the influence of the city as well as bringing the audience more impressive aesthetic experience.
