A Brief Discussion On The Art Of Film&Music In The Mainland China

Film music study is a cross discipline. As a part of the whole system in the film studies, its overall directions, general characteristics and facing problems is broadly in line with the film study; moreover, the film music study possesses particular significance and the law of development. Therefore, the key issues which are in the process of studying film music are to build suitable theoretical systems and appropriate research methods so as to explore the natural values in the film research.In the first part, this paper divides the development history of Chinese film music into four periods (the bud period in1905-1949, the development period in1949-1966, the desert period in1966-1976, the further development period in1976to present) and then gives a brief overview. In the second part, according to different types of film music, this paper analyzes kinds of main types of film music which are made in the Mainland China from three different aspects:firstly, according to "the source of the film music material", film music can be divided into the original music and the reference music; secondly, with putting "the function of music representation in the film"(whether the sound source is in the picture or not) as the standard, it can be the inner music and the external music; thirdly, the different "film music elements" make the film music into the pure music and the film songs. In the third part, this paper analyzes some films such as " the Iceberg Guest","Gua Sha","Red River Valley" and "the Banquet", through which this paper makes an introduction to the three major functions which are heightening atmosphere, expressing emotions and penetrating through the whole films. In the last part, this paper expounds on the style and characteristics of the film music in the Mainland China. In this part, it takes some films as examples to analyze the national music, classical music and pop music in Chinese film music, which contains "Gada Meilin ","Farewell To My Concubine ","With You","Will Love Through To The End" and "Platform "This paper analyzes the three aspects:the types, functions and style characteristic s of film music in the mainland. On the one hand, the paper hope that he marginal are as can attract the attention of film music creators,which can provide practical referenc e and help for creation, on the other hand, it can enrich the film theory research and pr omote the exchanges and cooperation between art theorist and creator.
