History is not only the time passed, but also full of mistery and unknowns. Historians focus on recording real history in a serious way. Scriptwriters explore the unknowning history wildly and enjoy the work of historians. History has been "well-designed" to be on the screen and be popular, in the meantime, works of historians are kind of isolated. Screenage is more alive compared with writing, for audiences, the screenage can be attractive for having both the sound and image. So it’s a new and good way to history broadcast."History on screen" includes historical plays, historical documentaries, historical tribunes and costume dramas. In the paper below, historial plays will be mianly discussed about how they actually perform and hinder the history. The other three types will also be discussed in a relatively simple way.In chapter one, there will be the introduction of the starts and research background of "history on screen". A notable concept called "historiophoty" by Hayden white who is pioneering the combination of history and screen. Chapter two goes to detailed discussion in historical plays. History appeals for turth, plays creates beauty. How the "history part" get along with the "play part" when they have the contradiction in natural? Historians give their suggestions and ideas that have been referenced in the paper. To move forward, historical plays must build new evaluation criterion according with their own characters.Chapter three consists of analysis for historical documentaries, historical tribunes and costume drama, historical documentaries would be the strict one, historical tribunes prefers to telling stories, however the ridiculous costume drama are hot in TV screen but not so hot between historians. In short,"history on screen" is not equal to history reality, there are also requires of audiences and scriptwriters. We believe the burgeoning mass media can be a good way to satisfy people’s desire of knowing history, and enlarge the influence of history.
