W. A. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart(1756~1791), the acknowledged peerless musical genius, is not only talented in classic music, but also one of the most outstanding representative of the western world. With benefit from his creation of opera, He achieved great success in the field of music. For instance, Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Cosi fan tutie, Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serai and Die Zauberflote, all have long enjoyed great popularity both at home and abroad. However, among these works above, some mixed notices of the Cosi fan tutte have come in over the centuries. Cosi fan tutte, which tells a story of a confusion caused by trust between2pairs of lovers, has been criticized by composers including Beethoven. But the significance of Cosi fan tutte is that it combines music and drama to a new level. Especially the role of the2sisters, Fiordiligi and Dorabella, which seem to have no marked traits of character, actually have distinct personality. This essay, which will be divided into4parts, comparing with other vocal works and roles of Mozart, uses divergent and comparative approach to analyze the image-building of the sisters, in order to provide a good deal of insight into the understanding of Cosi fan tutte.
