This thesis focuses on the integration and detachment of thedance and Chinese opera. In the beginning, the writer discusses thehistory of dance and the important role it played in development ofChinese civilization.The birth of dance is for human’s body communication, forentertaining the God and people. Later, dance aims to educate peoplein royal and noble household and worship the heaven. Then, dancegradually became an essential instrument of external communicationwith the development of cultural exchange and integration. All offunctions elaborated above are the significant role dance played insocial and historical development.While, traditional Chinese opera was sprouted in Song and Yuandynasty. It stopped the development of dance as a separatedperformance form. Then, these two forms began to integrate and gavebirth to a new performance-opera dance.In Ming and Qing dynasty, opera and dance became inseparabledue to their frequent communications. The dance work in this periodwas taken on the form of opera dance, such as the “Black Cloth”.When it comes to the1950s, dance was detached from Chinese opera and became a separated performance form-Chinese classical dance.There are both difference and link between dance and Chinese opera,they are inseparable. They progress together in the process ofintegration and separation became an indispensable part of thenational nonmaterial cultural heritage list.
