As far as modern cognitive linguistics is concerned, conceptual metaphor notonly covers the metaphorical expressions. In addition, it covers the whole range ofhuman behaviors and thinking. This thesis attempts to provide empirical study andtheoretical support for the systematicity of conceptual metaphor in political speechesand the metaphoric nature of political behavior and analyze the translation process ofconceptual metaphors and translation strategies in political speeches, namely HilaryClinton’s speeches based on the Conceptual Integration Theory. In this thesis, seven mostly employed kinds of conceptual metaphors (JOURNEY,BUILDING, WAR, RELIGION, PERSON, NATURE OR OBJECT, andMOVEMENT) from the two books Show Time! Hillary’s English-speaking World andBest Speeches of Secretary Clinton will be identified on the basis of ConceptualMetaphor Theory. The research of the699metaphorical expressions shows that threekinds of manifestation can be summarized: same conceptual metaphor translation, discrepant conceptual metaphor translation, non-conceptual metaphor translation. In accordance with Network Model of Conceptual Integration Translation, thetranslation processes of conceptual metaphor can be divided into five steps, namelyblending of Source Space and Target Space, cross-space mapping of Source Spaceand Target Space, projection to the Generic Space of Source Space and Target Space, projection to Blending Translated Space, generation of Blending Translated Space.Four kinds of network models in Conceptual Integration can be applied to theconceptual metaphor translation in political speeches, namely frame networks,one-sided network, revised single framing network and single framing network. When frame networks are applied to conceptual metaphors with same TFtopology and TS topology, the blend text of translation inherits TF topology and TStopology from both Source Space and Target Space with the translators’ adoption ofthe translation strategy of corresponding. When frame networks are applied toconceptual metaphors with same TF topology but different TS topology, the TFtopology which is shared by the Source Space and Target Space is mapped onto the Blend Translation of Text, while the TS topology from the Target Space is projected tothe Blend Translation of Text with the translation strategy of addition of metaphoricalexpression. When One-Sided Network is applied to the translation into discrepantconceptual metaphor, the TF topology and TS topology from the Target Space shall bemapped onto the Blend Translation of Text with the translation strategy ofreplacement of the conceptual metaphors. When Revised Single Framing Network isapplied to the translation into non-conceptual metaphor, the TF topology and TStopology from the Source Space shall be mapped onto the Blend Translation of Textbecause the elements in the Source Space can be understandable in the counterpartspace with the translation strategy of maintaining the original metaphor withexplanatory note. When Single Framing Network is applied to the translation intonon-conceptual metaphor, non-metaphorical organized structure TF topology from theTarget Space are mapped to form the Blend Translation of Text because the elementsin the Source Space cannot be appreciated in the counterpart space with theconceptual metaphor being omitted.
