Soubrette soprano, the lightest voice part,being called “Small Soprano” in China, iscommonly seen in the treble part of soprano in western comic operas. With the character ofbrightness, concentration and beautifulness, it applies in alter voice part as it is light and has smallresonance compared to other kinds of sopranos. Approaching from the central discussion of threeclassic sopranos,namely Susanna, Adina and Adela, this thesis tries to analyze their characterfeature, function and musical style, voice technique, emotion expression and etc. A finalconclusion can be reached that Soubrette soprano, acted as servant, plays the role of connectingthe storyline, promoting the development of plot, deepening the conflicts of drama and etc. As thesmall role in life and a big one in opera, she carries significant responsibilities as the acting shouldbe humorous and interesting; the emotion rich and passionate; the language recitative andmonologic; the voice agile and concentrative; the singing maintaining a high-position and uniformbreath flow with the full use of head resonance to control the flexibility of diaphragm andpossessing certain Coloratura singing skills.
