Code switching has been investigated for a few decades, and it has been involved in the EFL classrooms·As a bridge to connect teachers with students, code switching has made great contributions to this field·Domestic researchers hold different views on the English teachers’code switching in English classrooms·Some scholars advocate English-only approach, while according to some studies, most English teachers use code switching to facilitate teaching·This study investigates the teachers’code switching in English classrooms in vocational colleges, which intends to reveal the current situation, types and functions of teachers’code switching in English classrooms in vocational colleges, and the teachers’attitude toward teachers’ code switching in English classrooms·The study is based on Myers-Scotton’s Markedness Model and Brown and Levinson’face theory;both qualitative and quantitative research have been made on the study of teachers’code switching in English classrooms in vocational colleges by questionnaire and recording·Five English teachers from Shandong TV University and ten English teachers from Qilu Normal University participated in this study·Firstly, this study investigates the current situation of teachers’code switching in English classrooms in Vocational Colleges, and then attempts to find out the types of teachers’code switching in English classrooms in Vocational Colleges, and then studies the functions of teachers’ code switching by specific examples·Finally, in order to have a more comprehensive understanding on the code switching, the teachers’ attitude towards teachers’ code switching in English classrooms will be surveyed-In summary, the study focuses on investigating the situation of teachers’ code switching in English classrooms in Vocational Colleges, the types and functions of teachers’ code switching in English classrooms in Vocational Colleges, and teachers’ attitude towards teachers’ code switching-The study draws a conclusion that teachers’ code switching is a universal phenomenon and a dominant feature in Vocational Colleges’ English classrooms,the types of teachers’ code switching are divided into marked code switching and unmarked codes witching, the function of teachers’code switching including instructional function, communicative function and management function·And most of the English teachers aware of using code switching in English classrooms and their attitude towards code switching are positive·The author hopes the study can make a contribution to the improvement of Vocational Colleges’English teaching·Due to the restrictions of personal and social realities, the present study has several limitations, but we believe that the study may support some references for other colleagues·...
