As a special phenomenon in language contract, code switching is frequently used in bilingual even plurilingual society. Since the popularization of Mandarin and the trend of back-home start-up business in Henan province, mandarin and Xinyang dialect have become two important tools for daily communication. And it is quite common to see that these two communicative tools switch frequently and smoothly in people's daily parole. Active code switching takes place every day in Xinyang, Henan province. On the basis of the local residents as a target, code switching between the locals in their daily communication has been recorded in this thesis. According to an analysis of dialogues, it studies the features of this code switching from different angles including the orientation of change, age, gender, maintenance of turn-taking and syntactic constituent. The research results of this thesis have been provided on the basis of the questionnaire about language capability and attitude as well as the former theories. The thesis will not only provide some data for future study, but also attract people's attention on dialect preventention. The conclusions focus on the following six aspects.Firstly, according to the conversational data, it has been found that the code switching occurred in inter turn-taking is much more frequently than that occurred in intra turn-taking. Secondly, after the switching of intra turn-taking, it is shown that the code maintenance of mandarin keeps a similar total amount with that appears in Xinyang dialect. However, the amount of turn-taking is quite different between these two dialects. Thirdly, the total code switching amount of female is apparantly than that in male residents. Generally, in the inter turn-taking and inter-sentence level, more female residents prefer M like XY. But in the intra turn-taking level, there is not obvious difference between the female and male. Fourthly, the total amount of code switching in the underage is bigger than that in adult, but it is opposite in the under age. The above difference only can be found in inter turn-taking and inter-sentence level. But it is not obvious in intra-sentence level. Fifthly, language ability and language attitude have made an influence on code switching. The above conclusions support the results of the conversational data. Lastly, in the heart of younger generation, Mandarin has a significant prestige, protecting the dialect is imperative.
