With the accelerated multi-polarization, economic globalization and communication, intercultural communication becomes popular in the global setting. However, to a large extent, the relatively backward traditional conversational implicature theory cannot be adapted to thedevelopment of the new era. Therefore it has shown its shortcomings in the intrapersonalcommunications. This article is written to examine and analyze causes of cross-culturalcommunication failure from the perspective of cooperative principle and politeness principle ofthe conversational implicature theory, in order to study the cultural background of thecooperative principle thoroughly. How people are affected by national cooperative principle andpoliteness principle causes different types of errors under the national and cultural background, which is demonstrated by various means and methods in cultural, psychological, and socialenvironmental factors. The errors can be divided into several categories, such as "exchange ofgreetings","abstract exchange","exchange within certain frame","official exchange", and"common exchange”. Through introducing the basic situation in specific conversationalprinciples and the analysis of how cultural background affects the conversational principle, thethesis puts forward practical suggestion for strategies in intercultural communication. In theprocess of foreign language learning, students should have the notion of cultural equality andlearn more about target language. Teachers should improve their comprehensive culturalrepertoire as well as design the framework of the curriculum carefully.
