Based on the author’s Chinese to English translation practice of the cultural relics annotation for Qingdao Chonghanxuan Pictorial Bricks Museum and combined with the difficulties the author has run into, the translating methods the author has chosen and the ideas the author has been struck by in the process of translating, this report is written.In the introduction, the author briefly describes the background and content of the translating project as well as the author’s translating process which includes comprehending, translating, revising and proofreading. In chapter one, the author concisely introduces the theoretical preparation of this translating practice, namely the intercultural communication. In chapter two, the author introduces the translating purposes, target readers, translating principles and requirements for translators of translation of the cultural relics annotation under the guidance of intercultural communication. Starting from the difficulties the author have encountered in the translating process, the author, with the awareness of intercultural communication firmly kept in mind, elaborates on several translating methods and suggestions for C-E translation of cultural relics annotation in chapter three and four respectively. Chapter three elaborates on translation of the cultural relics annotation from the micro-perspective. The author adopts literal translation, free translation, addition of the subject and punctuation marks transformation as translating methods for the title translation. Suggestions for a more audience-friendly translation are offered when it comes to translation of the size and the time of an exhibited cultural relic and the place of its excavation. Also the author applies transliteration, cultural analogy and paraphrase to the translation of culture-loaded words. Chapter four elaborates on translation of the cultural relics annotation from the macro-perspective. The author adopts addition and deletion in dealing with the information in translation and adopts discourse reconstructing as the translating method in dealing with the discourse structure. Also translating suggestions for the linguistic style of the translated text are also presented in this chapter.The author sincerely hopes that this report will make a little contribution towards enhancing the quality of C-E translation of cultural relics annotation, drawing more attention of translators to translations of this genre and making the traditional Chinese culture widely disseminated overseas.
