Research On Kendi

The Kendi is from India, it is also named as "net bottle", It is the essential items monks had to carry, used for drinking water. The kendi’s unique, distinctive, with the introduction of Buddhism into china. Most early in Jin Dynasty literature has recorded, an kendi of the earliest is discovered in Sui Dynasty tombs unearthed in Xingjian of Jiangxi province. The kendi that implements our country has many objects, this paper collected more than one hundred, aged from the Sui Dynasty until the Qing Dynasty, along with the time change its style is changing. This paper is divided into six parts.The first part is introduction. The value of the topic is introduced in this paper, research history and status quo of combing the kendi, summarize the research ideas and methods.The second part, named the kendi. Introduces the source of the kendi, the kendi of naming confusion, again for the kendi.The third part is about the pattern analysis. The method to collect the kendi using the typology, the evolution of each type, and according to the kendi’s shape and characteristics, to the Southern Song Dynasty as the watershed, is divided into two stages, four small period, establish the stage and age of the kendi.The fourth part research on the evolution of the function of the kendi. The kendi from the Sui and Tang Dynasties as monks and nuns reservoir evolution during the Northern Song Dynasty Buddhist ritual, then evolved into ordinary Song Yuan after using, it features from specialization to the secularization.The fifth part researches on the relationship between the kendi and guanyin.
