Xihu Er Ji is written by Zhou Qingyuan, who was a scholar in the late Ming Dynasty. The book has34volumes based on Xihu stories, reflecting the society in the middle-late Ming Dynasty and variable mentality of scholars by its unique narrative strategies. However, there are only few studies of Zhou Qingyuan and his novel, especially of the narrative strategies, therefore, this paper will take that as a breakthrough point-to study the narrative strategies of Xihu ErJi.This paper consists of four chapters:First chapter is mainly talking about the object of study:the edition of XihuErJi, the detailed information about its author as well as definiting the research status and research method.Second chapter begins from the structure of Xihu Er Ji in order to study why Zhou Qingyuan narrated in such way. It divides into three parts:the way of the structure, the technique of the structure and the form of the structure and by that we could give a preliminary analysis of Zhou Qingyuan’s narrative strategies.Based on the second chapter, the third chapter discusses Zhou Qingyuan’s way in narration by studying the narrator and the narrative recipient in Xihu Er Ji so to get a further study of his narrative strategies.Last chapter takes a new look at Zhou Qingyuan’s narrative thoughts, Baoxiren’s novel comments and graphic narration with the result that to make a full analysis of Xihu Er Jis narrative strategies. |
