Farewell is the perpetual themes of poets and literary men, although the twocountries are far beyond in language, culture, they have many things in common inthe expression of farewell. Record of traveling to Ming has recorded what theambassadors saw, heard and wrote along the way when they traveled from Korea toChina in Ming Dynasty. According to what they wrote, we learned about China’simage in the eyes of those ambassadors. From their unique experience during thejourney, we also know about the two countries’ emotional communication based onthe thought of “respect Ming as the biggest”, their farewell poem is produced underthis kind of background. This article regarded the farewell poems of Record oftraveling to Ming as the research objects, and took the method of comprehensiveanalysis, sorting, and comparing with farewell poems in ancient China, according tothe following five sections to discuss:Section one is the general introduction of Travel to Ming and Record of travelingto Ming. It refers to two parts. The first part is the background of Record of travelingto Ming. It mainly discusses the relevant policy of communication between Korea andChina in Ming Dynasty, and how the ambassadors came to China. The second part isabout the main content recorded in the Record of traveling to Ming and its relatedgeneral knowledge.Section two is classification research of Record of traveling to Ming. It alsorefers to two parts. The first part classify the farewell poems according to differentpeople who they bade their farewell, state the farewell poems to their colleagues,Chinese literary men, officers and ambassadors. The second part is about Koreanambassadors chanted with Chinese literary men and that they chanted withambassadors from other countries about the theme of farewell.Section three is the main part of this article. This part tells the same points anddifferences between Korean ambassadors’ farewell poetry and ancient China onesbased on the theme of emotion. It refers to three parts. Part one is to separatelyintroduce the emotion characters of ancient Chinese farewell poems and those of theKorean ambassadors. Part two is to compare the two kinds of farewell poetry, and telltheir same points and differences in their emotion characters. Part three is to introduce the unique background of the Korean ambassador’s farewell poetry, and its uniquetheme of emotion.Section four compares Korean ambassador’s farewell poetry with ancientChinese farewell poems based on the use of synaesthetic image. This part can also bedivided into three parts. Part one is to separately introduce which images these twokinds of poems use. And part two compares the two kinds of poems and introducestheir same points and differences in the use of synaesthetic image, and also how theKorean ambassador’s farewell poetry take example and learn from ancient Chinesefarewell poems. Part three tells the unique character of Korean ambassador’s farewellpoetry’s use of synaesthetic image.Section five discusses the same and different points between Koreanambassadors’ farewell poetry and ancient Chinese farewell poems in terms of meansof artistic expression. It refers to two parts. The first part is to separately tell theemotional theme of Korean ambassadors’ farewell poetry and ancient China ones.And the second part tells how the Korean ambassador’s farewell poetry take exampleand learn from ancient Chinese farewell poems in the means of artistic expression,and also discusses the unique points of it.Record of traveling to Ming is a collection of Korean ambassadors’ works duringtheir journey to China. It recorded what the ambassadors saw, heard, felt andunderstood in China. So it can be considered as important information in researchingthe communication between the two countries. Their farewell poetry was written totheir colleagues, Chinese literary men and officers, and also ambassadors form othercountries. It not only written about their emotional experience but also reflected theircurrent situations. Comparing Korean ambassador’s farewell poetry with ancientChinese farewell poems, we can learn something about the communication betweenthe two countries, we can see the influence of ancient Chinese farewell poems to theKorean ambassadors’ farewell poems, and we can know the unique advantages ofKorean ambassadors’ farewell poetry. So this collection of works is worth researchingin its literary value and will make a significant sense of study.
