The paper systematieally study sedimentary facies and distribution of sand bodies of the Guantao formation in the west Qudi oil field which is located in the south slope of Huimin depression.It provides theoretical supports for increasing the production.Based on the sedimentological theory,applied the geophysics, geochemistry, basin analysis methods,combined analysis of outcrops, cores and well logging data,the paper study the source direction,sedimentary facies types and distribution of sedimentary facies of Guantao formation in the west Qudi oil field.This study mainly uses the regional geologic information,percentage of glutenite,quartz cathode luminescent images,stratigraphic dip logging data,seismic reflection data and light and heavy minerals and cuttings information.Finally we obtained that sediment of Guantao formation in the west Qudi oil field is controlled by west Shandong uplift in south-east.Group of garnet and zircon is the major type of heavy minerals.Clastics are mainly from Precambrian gneiss and granite since the Palaeozoic Era of west Shandong uplift.Using classification marks of sedimentary facies,we identify that the Guantao formation in the west Qudi oil field develop braided river deltaic system.It can be divided into flood land,natural levee, flood fan, mouth bar and river stranded deposition.And restore the morphological characteristics and the ancient geographical pattern by means of the analysis of individual well,the correlation of cross sections and the distribution of sand bodies.
