Numerical weather prediction is a comprehensive science which needs lots of information processing; it depends on the improvement and development of related disciplines such as meteorology, aerophysics, computer technology, information technology, remote sensing techniques, and geological science and so on. Currently, most of the numerical weather prediction operation systems running in high performance computers and calling program through command mode as well as executing program. With the increasing data acquisition methods and expanding meteorological service scale, the data volume of numerical weather prediction blow up quickly,so it is difficult to ensure there will be enough computing power and good data quality if we only use high performance computer and command mode, and eventually affect the wide application of numerical weather prediction. The emergence of grid technology provides effective methods and platform for solving large-scale scientific computing and mass information processing and so on.After analyzing the present situation of numerical weather prediction operation system, I found that building numerical weather prediction operation system under grid environment involves a series of complex operations, in order to facilitate users make full use of the grid resources, I use the web service methods, encapsulating each function of numerical weather prediction in WEB service component model, providing services through the unified access interface; In allusion to the fact that resources been widely distributed in grid environment and its heterogeneous characteristics, I design a resource management system of grid numerical weather prediction, and analyze the QoS problems of grid resource. Besides, I study the meteorological resources scheduling problems in grid environment. According to the characteristic of weather prediction, I designed reasonable schedule strategy and algorithm, and use the grid simulation tool-GridSim for simulation experiment of scheduling algorithm. At last, I designed grid numerical weather prediction prototype system and, by-using Globus Toolkit building gird platform, and GIS technique, and realized Web services’publishment of numerical weather prediction in grid environment.Compared with traditional numerical weather prediction methods, the numerical weather prediction in gird environment can make full use of the resources that have been distributed in network, provided users cheap fast meteorological services. This study is significant to improve the development and application of numerical weather prediction.
