Deformation monitoring of the building is the measurement of the deformation of the buildings and their foundations, such as settlement, tilt, deflection, crack, displacement and so on, as a result of the load in their own buildings and foundations, as well as geological and external force over time. Its main task is to ensure the security of buildings in the construction, use and operation, and to provide reliable information for building design, construction management and scientific research. Obtaining the amount of change in the research period by periodically repeated observations of the monitoring points would help to find the building static deformation data and dynamic deformation law, therefore, to take remedial actions before losses to ensure the quality of the project and construction biosafety. Currently, deformation monitoring of the building has gotten high attention in China. Continuously progressed science and technology require that deformation monitoring constantly developing. GPS, a new modern space positioning technology, which has advantages such as high precision, high speed, all-weather, and the high degree of automation, no visibility, for simultaneous determination of the three-dimensional displacement point, has been more widely used in various fields. Compared with conventional methods of measurement, the accuracy of the GPS technology does not only meeting the deformation monitoring requirements, and also contributes to the automation and real-time monitoring. Based on the GPS positioning theory and applications, this paper analyses the strengths and weaknesses of the deformation monitoring, focuses on the technical design of the GPS monitoring and data processing methods, outlining the deformation model and program design of the GPS used in high-rise buildings together with engineering building deformation monitoring example. It draws some practical conclusions through analysis and processing of a series of field monitoring data.
