Along with the development of the textile technology, requirements of yarn structure and performance are more strictly. The technology of indirect yarn steaming which improving the tight twist yarn is not limited to the wool spinning. Indirect yarn steaming is a relatively advanced yarn processing technology which can effectively improve mechanical properties of yarns and knitted fabrics. Compared with indirect yarn steaming technology, traditional conditioning method needs more time and larger space as well as more difficult to effectively control the environmental influence on the performance of yarn. The main purpose of indirect yarn steaming is to improve the overall performances of yarn such as increasing the breaking strength and elongation, decreasing hairiness and keeping uniform frictional coefficient by conditioning test parameters including pressure, temperature and time in the steaming process. According to the various demands, people design different blending ratio for the polyester cotton blended yarn. The main purpose of the subject is to gaining optimal steaming test parameters for different kinds of polyester cotton blended yarn.There are five parts in this paper:The first part introduced the development of the technology of indirect yarn steaming and the research actuality. The second part designed and manufactured the indirect steaming yarn apparatus with optimization of steaming temperature and humidity control and quality control system. The third part tested the mechanical performance of three different yarn treated by indirect yarn steaming. The fourth part analyzes the test data of three different yarn and gets the most suitable test parameters for the indirect steaming process. The fifth part is conclusion.Orthogonal experimental design is used to design experimental program. The indirect yarn steaming can simplify the process of yarn steaming, save time and reduce energy consumption. On the other hand, it will also improve the physical and mechanical properties of the polyester cotton blended yarn and knitted fabrics through adjusting the moisture regain accurately. The indirect yarn steaming technology is very important for knitted fabrics.
