Gas ortho-methylation reaction of Phenol,3,5-xylenol and with methanol was studiedCatalytic performance of the iron-based catalysts with alkali metal, alkaline earth metals, tr-ansition metals and the preparation,which were prepared by co-precipitation method,were investigated.The catalytic mechanism,deactivation and regeneration of catalyst were discusse-d.Through a variety of characterization methods and catalyst evaluation results,the best catalysts and optimization of process conditions were gaint.Supported iron oxide catalyst prepared by impregnation was investigated.The thermodynamic analysis of gas ortho-monomethylation of phenol,3,5-xylenol was ran, then using ASPEN software the reaction system were simulated,leaving the basic thermodynamic data.Iron catalyst was preparated by co-precipitation method.The preparation processon of catalyst impose more obvious influence on the catalytic performance, including calcination temperature, and precipitation temperatures are particularly significant. Cocatalyst Sn showed higher catalytic activity, the introduction of K, as co-catalyst is effective in improving the selectivity of the monomethylation.The composite of oxide catalyst is Fe2O3:SnO2:K2O, whose atomic ratio of the catalyst is1:0.05:0:001. Phenol ortho monomethylated optimum re-action conditions:temperature of360-380℃, liquid hourly space velocity the0.12hr-1, n(ph-enol: methanol:water)=1:1.2:2, o-cresol yield the highest55.0%;3,5-xylenol single methyl-ation reaction temperature range of340~360℃, liquid hourly space velocity not less than0.54hr-1,n (3,5-dimethyl phenol:methanol:cyclohexane)=1:0.5:1,3,5-DMP conversi-on of12.8%,2,3,5-TMP selectivity up to100%.Supported iron oxide catalysts were prepared by impregnation, with the calcination tempera-ture550℃,γ-Al2O3as the carrier. Fe203/Al2O3=10/100(W) catalyst for alkylation reaction of phenol with methanol, the conversion of phenol was16.1%, the yield of o-cresol15.3%. Fe2O3/Al2O3=15/100Catalyst for3,5-xylenols with methanol vapor alkylationreaction, to85.8%conversion rate of3,5-xylenol, the yield of2,3,5-TMP was56.6%.Thermodynamic calculations and the ASPEN software simulation show that the methylation reactions of phenol,3,5-xylenol are irreversible, material ratio significantly affected the met-hylation reaction while the reaction temperature on themethylation reaction less affected.
