As the basic equipment of advanced manufacturing technology, the technical levelof the CNC machine tools has become the core sign to measure a country’smanufacturing level. High-performance, multi-function, high-speed and high-flexibilityhas made machining centers become the fastest growing product in various CNCmachine tools and the biggest constituent of various CNC machine tools. Machiningcenters play an important role in mechanical manufacturing industry. It is of greatsignificance to carry out reliability analysis on machining centers for reliability hasbecome a bottleneck which restricts the quality of them nowadays. In this paperreliability theory is applied to discuss and analysis the reliability of a series of gantrymachining center named GMC2000A and the main work is as follows:(1) Analyzing the structure of the GMC2000A and establishing reliability blockdiagram model of it according to the logical relationship of the subsystem. On this basis,we get the reliability mathematical model of GMC2000A, and then two-step fuzzycomprehensive evaluation method is used to accomplish the reliability allocation ofGMC2000A.(2) Studying the application of FMEA analysis method in the reliability work ofthe gantry machining center. Based on the fault information collected in the field andthe suggestion discussed with experts, FMEA work of the GMC2000A gantrymachining center is carried on, the improvement recommendations and compensatorymeasures to corresponding failure mode are proposed, and the FMEA form is generated(3) Studying the applications of fuzzy risk assessment methods. In traditionalFMECA analysis, each risk factor is difficult to precisely describe and quantify. Aimingat overcoming this shortage, the fuzzy theory is introduced and the FRPN method isapplied to assess the risk of each failure mode and to get their order. Take the spindlesystem of GMC2000A for example to do the hazard analysis, and then the hazardanalysis of each subsystem is deployed. As a result, the risk prioritization of subsystemsis obtained by this way.(4) Researching on the reliability test of the key components of the GMC2000A gantry machining center:45degrees universal rotary milling head, screw nut and toolchanging device.
