As indoor refurbishment nowadays becomes the influential impact on people’s life, indoor air pollution has been increasing worse and worse. Indoor environment has become a new topic among pollution issues. This study aims to analyze the dynamic distribution of pollutant during and also after the period of house refurbishment. It also figures out the variance regulation and variance cause. Furthermore, the conclusion provides authentic evidence on refurbishment materials and precautionary measures during the different refurbishment phases. This study selected two new houses located in Chang’an district, Xi’an city; tested the indoor concentration of formaldehyde, ammonia, benzene and TVOC from refurbishment phase to half a year later separately by the multifunctional formaldehyde, ammonia measuring instrument and FirstCheck+5000portable gas detector; and then conducted the correlation analysis of the four selected pollutants through SPSS. The indoor air quality tested per phase was evaluated by single factor method, comprehensive analysis and grey statistical decision method. In addition, the researcher using questionnaires surveyed the residents’ knowledge about the interior refurbishment. Depending on all above studies, the results indicate that:(1) During the refurbishment period and half a year after that, there was at least one of the four pollutants exceeding the standard. There was no absolute clean environment. The pollution rate was over90%during the period, and the heavy pollution rate reached at about60%. The pollution was of concern.(2) During the refurbishment period, the concentration of the pollutants varied in different refurbishment phases. The concentration value of formaldehyde increased remarkably when wood work was conducted and the furniture was placed in the properties. The amount of ammonia in indoor air rose sharply during wall painting and after the wood word. The concentration of TVOC and benzene went up quickly after the wall paper sticking and the placement of the furniture.(3) Since formaldehyde and ammonia pollution has been effectively controlled throughout the refurbishment, people should pay attention to benzene and TVOC pollution prevention. According to the result of indoor air quality assessment based on Grey statistic decision method conducted at two surveillance sites, benzene has become the most important factor that influences indoor air quality, followed by TVOC.(4) Refurbishment season has an impact on the indoor air quality. The releasing speed of indoor pollution tends to be fast due to high temperature in spring and summer. Furthermore, the air circulates frequently because of the long time of opening windows. After refurbishment, there is a heating period in north China. The indoor air, therefore, goes through high temperature twice during the six month period, which fastens the releasing speed of the pollution. The single pollution rate of indoor air is lower than that of being refurbished in autumn and winter.(5) Citizens in Xi’an have a strong sense of pollution prevention, and they refer to the national quality standard and clean standard, when selecting refurbishment products. However, due to product quality and inefficient stain removing, some people still feel uncomfortable after moving into a new refurbished property. Indoor pollution exists widely. Relevant policies were proposed according to the research findings.(6) The government regulations and the concepts of green refurbishment should be enhanced; the development of productions with low-cost and pollution-free should be promoted; Relevant people should be suggested to decrease the indoor length and make effective measures such as plant decontamination methods to create a healthy indoor environment.
