With the development of the science and technology, the modern stage art design is seeking innovation, thus higher technical requirements are proposed for the stage machinery. The stage machinery as a carrier of the modern stage art, can meet the increasingly stricter demands for the use of the stage only by improved technology it applied. Provided the technical means are appropriately used, application of the advanced computer technology in stage design and research can help enhance the safety, reliability, and advanced nature of the stage.Rotary drum stage is one of the largest and most complicated facilities in the stage machinery. However, most of them have faults.such as unreasonable design, heavy weight, high energy consumption, higher noise, etc. The author have made design simulation with UG three-dimensional software and conducted mechanics analysis and optimized design by finit element method. Detailed research contents are as follows:1. The present development situation of the rotary drum stage in China’s large theatres was studied and problems were found out. Functions of the rotary drum stage include the self rotation, the up-and-down motion of the elevator platform, and the rotation of the bevelled platform. The design method is aimed to realize the motion with speedy slope rotation of the bevelled platform without large crack.2. By use of UG NX6three-dimensional software, three-dimensional design for rotary drum stage, elevator platform and bevelled platform can be realized. A complete rotary stage subassembly can be assembled by using virtual assembly technology, and then static intervention analysis was conducted. On the basis of virtual assembly, the movement simulation for the overall structure, especially the elevator platform and bevelled platform, was conducted to analyze the movement stability of the overall structure and verify the existence of intervention by components in motion, so as to ensure the rationality of the structural design.3. Static calculation for the overall structure of the revolving drum stage was conducted by using finit element software ANSYS12.0, and compiling order flow document by APDL, to analyze the force and deformation of the overall structure and verify if its mechanic capability can meet the need of the design in terms of intensity and rigidity. After the analysis and optimized design for the original structure, we can meet the basic design requirements while lighten the weight of the structure, save materials and reduce energy consumption.
