With growing of the scale of infrastructure construction, incidents in tower craneoperating are increasing year by year. Risk factors and safety hazards in tower craneoperation could be controlled only by supervising the using process and behavior timelyand effectively. The safety monitoring system to tower cranes is assistant electronicequipment in safety management of hammer-head cranes. It is an integrative systemwith multifarious technologies, such as electronic technology, automatic control,intelligent testing, wireless communications, and database management.The remote terminal of monitoring system to the construction tower cranes in thispaper is a safety control system based on wireless network-based communication withpowerful ability in data processing, multi-task monitoring. It is safe, reliable and easy tooperate. The system could prevent tower crane colliding when the group of tower cranesare cross-operating.The hardware of the system is composed by a host with a8-inch dynamic colorLCD monitor(a condenser is built in to output brake control), angle sensors, a rangesensors, a wind speed sensors, torque sensors, a weight sensors, inclination sensors,height sensors, a wireless communication module, a fingerprint certifying module. Thesystem is mounted on the tower crane for information collecting, exchanging, andprocessing and so on.The kernel of the system uses Samsung ARM7S3C44B0X single-chipmicrocomputer, LCD monitor for on-site displaying, GPRS module for data uploading,Zigbee module for wireless data transmitting, and fingerprint module for IDauthenticating. Information may include the location of the movement of tower cranes,the height of hooks, the angle of arms, the weight of hanging objects, the torqueinformation, and wind and velocity information while its operation. The informationcould be saved every two seconds with read-only style; and all this operatinginformation can be saved more than30days. By monitoring and Informationexchanging, tower cranes colliding could be avoided and functions such as environmentprotection, overload protection, torque protection, wind speed alarm could be realized. The system adopts C language in design and language programming. The moduleof software function contains several parts, i.e. data reading with sensor, GPRS networkconnecting, LCD monitor driver, data processing, Zigbee wireless transmitting, thefingerprint authenticating module, wind speed alarm. It realizes some basic functions inreal-time data acquisition by sensor, data analyzing and processing, anti-collisioncommunication among tower cranes, communicating within center server, pre-alarm,remote deploying of wireless field-data, and fingerprint authenticating etc.By joint commissioning among various parts, the system could be used in safetymonitoring in construction sites, upload real-time alarm data to the tower cranemonitoring center, which is checked by crane’s managers.
