The frame as a part of a vehicle being a carrier to attach many important assembly parts, always works under complex loads of payload, so it is critical to analyze its strength and rigidity in total design process. It has a great signification for improving vehicle performance, reducing design and manufacture costs, and increasing competitive power through analyzing vehicle performance and optimizing the structure of vehicle in design process using FEM method.The research of this paper is supported by the China National High-Tech Program (863Program)(2008AA100904):Research on Efficient Spaying Technology and the Creation of Spaying Equipment Applying in Trellis Plants. The paper first constructed geometrical model of the frame based on the prototype of863national project-width adjustable new-type spraying vehicle through CATIA software, established and duly simplified the FEM model of the frame, discussed the strength and rigidity of the frame under the typical working conditions of the bending and torsion after analyzing static performance of the frame. The results indicated the stress of frame was less than ultimate tensile strength, and could well meet the project design requirements. However, there existed some shortcomings such as low material utilization and economy, it provided the theory for further structure optimization.This paper also conducts the modal analysis of the frame structure, and calculates its natural frequency and the corresponding modal shape. The analysis result shows that the inherent frequency of the frame structure avoids the extrinsic frequency, which indicates that the structure is reasonable. At the same time, the paper also conducts a static test, the results are almost consistent with the calculation results. Therefore, the numerical results of finite element analysis can be used to guide the process of the frame design and analysis.On the basis of analyzing and studying the performance of the frame structure, through structuring the parametric model of the frame structure, the weight of the frame structure is optimized based on the section size of the frame. The optimization result shows that the weight of the frame structure has been obviously reduced, and gets the desired result of lightweight of frame structures.
