To improve the performance of meshing,reduce the concentration of stress and improve the stiffness of transmission, this paper proposes the idea that using new profile (later, referred to as CTC tooth) to substitute involute profile according to the shortcoming that involute profile harmonic drive has poor gear performance and low stiffness. The paper focus on the research of CTC profile design, deriving the conjugate tooth profile and the comparison of different involute profile’s performance.The design changes the cutter tooth,choosing the circular line and circular instead of the original pure linear rack cutter while do not change the soft wheel profile directly, it is helpful to the future study of the realization of CTC profile machining tool series and systematization. This idea makes sure that the CTC profile can be produced massive and low-cost.Firstly, we figure out the tool conjugate of tooth profile namely the soft tooth shape, then solving the conjugate rigid tooth shape. The research of tooth shape conjugate soft wheel has been always the difficulty, we can’t work out the listed equation according to envelope conditions. This paper in turn to analyze the relationship between the input and output of instantaneous rotation angle, which means we use the method that map soft tooth movement form to just wheel coordinate system to work out the problem of derive Conjugate tooth.Analysis lateral clearance.Using the abaqus software, we compare the node stress, strain and stiffness change between CTC profile and involute profile at the same loading cases. Finally get the conclusion that CTC profile can improve the harmonic drive meshing performance and reduce stress, strain which makes it has better stiffness characteristics than involute tooth. This research lay the foundation for further research of CTC profile and engineering application.
