The properties of material for weapons become more and more important, so it’s necessary to look for a variety of ways to meet the demand of the development of new weapons. Extrusion forming is one of all new process to make high-quality cartridge case or projectile body. Same important problems of hydrostatic extruder used in experiments are analyzed:firstly, the analysis of sealing performance. The sealing structure of the extruder is made up with O-ring, check ring, delta-ring and baffle ring. The sealing performance depends on O-ring under initial conditions of low pressure, or delta-ring when in the conditions of high pressure. Analysis result based on ANSYS proves the sealing structure can guarantee good performance under the pressure of810MPa.Secondly, the analysis of strength and stiffness of the mainly structures of hydrostatic extrusion. By use of ANSYS, the deflection of the mainly structures are calculated, the factor of stress concentration of flange is obtained, the structure of tailgate with cross stirrup is analyzed and optimized. It provides strong support for improving structures. Thirdly, the analysis of properties of liquid medium (castor oil) for hydrostatic extrusion. A experiment is devised for detecting the properties of castor oil within range of150℃and800MPa.The experimental results and data analysis show that when castor oil is used as pressure medium, within the specified temperature and pressure ranges, there is a positive correlation between pressure and the amount of compression, the higher the temperature is, the better linearity will be gotten; the bulk modulus of castor oil do not completely remain unchanged, it is positive correlation with pressure and negative correlation with temperature, it tend to be stable as the pressure increased; in the situation of the same initial volume and temperature, if the oil is compressed by the same volume, increment of pressure is positive correlation with the initial pressure and negative correlation with the initial temperature.
