Along with the vigorous development of our country’s engineeringconstructions, such as subway tunnel, railway tunnel, highway tunnel, miningtunnel, hydropower tunnel and municipal pipeline, especially25projects ofmetro light rail were approved by the national development and reformcommission on September5,2012, China will enter the high speed developmentperiod of the underground space. Because the shield construction method hadadvantages of excavation speed, good quality, safety, economy, environmentalprotection and reducing the labor intensity, it was applied to the tunnelconstruction more and more. And TBM was a dedicated engineering machineryin shield construction method.The cutter head was the main working part of TBM, and it had excavationformation, stability constraints, and mixing waste residue function. The cutterhead’s structure had a close relation with engineering geological conditions andconstruction requires. Different cutter head’s structure and arrangement of toolswere used in different geological conditions. They were key to the success of thetunnel constructions.This paper’s main research content includes:First, the developing course of heading machineat at home and abroad andthe current research status of the cutter head are summarized. The source of thethesis and research meaning are expounded. Last the research methods andresearch contents are put forward.Second, the stress characteristic of cutter head in normal working conditionis analysed, and the specific numerical values are calculated. These provide theexternal load for finite-element analysis of cutter head.Third, a three-dimensional model of the testing machine and cutter head areestablished, and the mode analysis and the strength stiffness analysis are carriedout on the cutter head. The natural frequency of the cutter head and the stressand strain are obtained. Fourth, based on the results of finite-element analysis, the key componentsoptimization of the cutter head is proposedThe research result shows the tendency of the cutter head in the process oftunneling. It provides theory basis for designing and optimizing cutter head.TBM’s localization of research and development can be further sped up.
