Purpose:Arrange and analyze the literature in relation to osteoporosis through the methods of statistics and data mining, and then summarize the rule of its pattern differentiation and medicinal selection-application to provide a theoretical foundation for clinical treatment of osteoporosis.Material and method:Retrieve the medical-record literature on osteoporosis which meets the inclusion criteria on CNKI during1970to2011; establish databases using EXCEL; and conduct frequency, factor and association rules analysis on these data on the vista operating system by the data mining software SPSS and Clementine.Result:1. The result of frequency analysis reveals that deficiency supplementing medicinals accounts for the majority of the medication for osteoporosis, and follows the medicinals of invigorating blood and dissolving stasis; the liver and kidney channels account for the majority of the target channels; and kidney deficiency accounts for the majority of pattern.2. Through factor analysis seven groups of medicinals which are used to treat osteoporosis of different pathomechanism.3. Through association rules, exacted are15pairs,79triads,28quaternates and1pentamerous group of highly correlated medicinals.4. The association rules analysis on the diseased organs and disease pattern reveals that the diseased organ of primary osteoporosis is the kidney.5. The association rules analysis on high frequency medicinals and disease pattern reveals that8medicinals are highly connected with the pattern of kidney deficiency,10medicinals are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yang deficiency;6medicinals are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yin deficiency;6medicinals are highly connected with the pattern of liver-and kidney-yin deficiency;4medicinals are highly connected with the pattern of kidney deficiency and blood stasis; and3medicinals are highly connected with the pattern of kidney deficiency and insufficient qi-blood.6. The association rules analysis on pairs of medicinals and disease pattern reveals that3pairs are highly connected with the pattern of kidney deficiency;6pairs are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yang deficiency;8pairs are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yin deficiency; and3pairs are highly connected with the pattern of liver-and kidney-yin deficiency.7. The association rules analysis on triads of medicinals and disease pattern reveals that17triads are highly connected with the pattern of kidney deficiency;35triads are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yang deficiency;2triads are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yin deficiency; and18triads are highly connected with the pattern of liver-and kidney-yin deficiency.8. The association rules analysis on quaternates of medicinals and disease pattern reveals that7quaternates are highly connected with the pattern of kidney deficiency;19quaternates are highly’connected with the pattern of kidney-yang deficiency;2triads are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yin deficiency; and11quaternates are highly connected with the pattern of liver-and kidney-yin deficiency.9. The association rules analysis on pentamerous groups of medicinals and disease pattern reveals that2groups are highly connected with the pattern of kidney-yang deficiency; and1group is highly connected with the pattern of liver-and kidney-yin deficiency.Conclusion:1. Through the analysis of the high frequency medicinals and the medicinals classification, we can conclude the pathomechanism of osteoporosis is mainly kidney deficiency and secondarily blood stasis. The treatment are always based on a supplement of the kidney, and, according to the connectivity between five zang-organs, such methods as invigorating blood and fortifying the spleen may also be adopted. 2. Frequency analysis reveals that most of the medicinals of high frequency enter the channel of the kidney with a function of supplementing kidney. In the classification of patterns, the pattern of kidney deficiency greatly outnumbers the rest. Justify the theoretical and practical sense of treating osteoporosis from the kidney.3. The7groups of medicinals extracted through factor analysis reveals that in treating osteoporosis most frequently adopted are kidney supplement coupled with blood invigoration, qi boost and dampness removal medicinals, indicating that the pathomechanism of the disease is kidney deficiency with qi stagnation, cold dampness and blood stasis.4. The results of the connection rules analysis on osteoporosis of the connection between the patterns and the diseased sites and medicinal pairs/groups reveal that the primary osteoporosis has a strong connection with kidney, that is to say, the method of treating osteoporosis on the basis of kidney mainly targets the primary ones. The strong connected medicinal groups all belong to the recipes of supplementing kidney and essence. It shows the pathological basis of the kidney deficiency and essence depletion of osteoporosis, indicating the disease is always treated with the method of supplementing the kidney and essence.
