| Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common functional gastrointestinal disease in clinic which is manifested as abdominal pain, abdominal distension accompanying with changes in bowel habit (diarrhea or constipation), abnormal shape and properties of stool (loose stool, mucous stool/constipation), etc. Such symptoms occur either continuously or intermittently without any evidence for organic disease, irritable bowel syndrome of diarrhea pattern (IBS-D) is a main type of IBS.IBS attack rate is already5~25%over the world population. Even though this attack does not threaten one’s life but it causes stress and inconvenience of living and working, therefore IBS is required to concern seriously.The pathogeny and nosogenesis of IBS are complicated and have not been clarified, but the perspective has been developed from "merely power confusion" through many years to "the theory of brain-gut axis" suggested in recent years. Some people think that IBS is the results of following parts affected each other including functional confusion of central nervous system, abnormality of visceral sense and motion, hormonal function of alimentary canal, psychological disorder, genetic element, intestinal infection and other enteric cavity elements etc. This reflects the mode and viewpoint of "Biological medicine-physiological medicine-social medicine" of modern medicine.Recently, there are no a single medicine to cure the IBS perfectly. Modern medicine is emphasizing that the treatment of individual patient is depends on the seriousness of symptoms, frequency of disease and type of symptoms which is including psychotherapy, medication and dietary therapy. Treatment according to syndrome differentiation is the essence of Chinese traditional medication.This study is summarized seventies cases of IBS-D patients who checked at division of gastroenterology at Xiyuan Hospital CACMS from March2012to April2013. I collected and organized data of patients’principle action, history of present illness, history of past illness. TCM syndrome differentiation, therapy and medicine and summarized theory and experience of Dc. Li used Chinese medication to cure IBS. Among these syndrome differentiation, mostly were stagnation of liver-QI with deficiency of the spleen, damp heat in the spleen and the stomach and cold-heat complex and most of the treatment were Tongxieyaofang, Banxiaxiexintang and Xiaoyaosan. |
