Impaired Glucose Intolerance (IGT) is a condition which exists between diabetic and normal glucose metabolic level. The condition:Fasting blood glucose (FBT)<7. Ommol/L and2hours Postprandial blood glucose is between7.8mmol/L and11. lmmol/L。The blood glucose level is abnormal but not yet to be diagnosed as diabetic. This pre-diabetic condition can eventually developed into diabetic mellitus. Therefore, both conditions are closely related. In the recent years, foreign and local researchers began to place emphasis on the Chinese and western medicine intervention of IGT. However, IGT patients do not display any symptoms, only show abnormalities in the blood glucose test. Using traditional Chinese medical "san xiao" diagnostic and treatment de not achieve the desired effect. Professor Zang Fu Ke from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine(BUCM) invented the unique tuina technique, abdominal vibration therapy, which is derived through many years of summary of his clinical experiences and cases. This technique is widely used in internal medicine, gynecology, andrology related diseases and has already proven its clinical efficacy. The central point of the abdominal vibration therapyis at navel as Chinese medical theory believed that this point is vital for the postnatal growth and essential for the function of zangfu. It can help to replenish liver and spleen, also nourish the vessel of chong and ren. This thesis is divided into three parts:1. the modern scientific research and traditional Chinese medical research on IGT.2.The introduct ion on abdominal vibrat ion therapy.3.The clinical trial of reducing blood glucose in IGT patient using abdominal vibration therapy. The first two parts of the thesis summarizes the current treatment, research and understanding of IGT, including epidemiology, pathogenesis, interventions and the outcome of IGT with regard to both Chinese and western medicine. There is also discussions on the current inadequacies future improvement. The last part of the thesis is the efficacy on the treatment of reducing2hPG·blood glucose in IGT patients using abdominal vibration therapy in a randomized clinical trial. There are30patients in each control and intervention group. After analyzing the data, the treatment efficacy of the intervent ion group had a significant drop in2hPG blood glucose levelcompared to control group (P<0.05).Conelusion: Abdominal vibration therapy had a positive effect in lowering2hPG blood glucose level in the IGT patients. This portrayed the advantage of using traditional Chinese medicine theories and its fundamenta Is in disease prevention. This is also a cheaper alternative form of treatment.
