Trifolium pratense L., a legume and an important forage plant grown around the world. They are originally used as a herb medicinal by native indigenous people of North America for whooping cough, gout and cancer, and others traditionally have used it in the treatment of asthma, bronchitis, coughs and so on. Recent years several kinds of isoflavones were found in the plant, and these isoflavones were demonstrated to have a significant effects for the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and postmenopausal complaints. In this thesis, chemical investigation of Trifolium pratense L. wildly growing in the Xinjiang Vlygur Autonomous Region was carried out. By various chromatographic methods(silica gel column、ODS、Shephadex LH-20、PTLC) and recrystallization,21 compounds were isolated from the 70% ethanol extra of the whole plant. On the basis of physicochemical characters and spectral analysis(NMR,MS), the structures of 17 compouds were identified as (-)maackiain(1), biochanin A(2),irilone (3), formononetin (4), biochanin A7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (5), daidzein (6), trifolirhizi n (7), vanillin(8),β-sitosterol (9), daucosterol (10), kaempferol (11), isoquercitrin (12),quercetin(13),succinicacid(14),genistin(15),5-O-methyl-myo-inositol(16),pratens ein-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (17) respectively. Among them, compounds 8,11,13, 16 were firstly isolated from this genus.
