Cirsium setosum (Willd.)MB. (Compositae) is widely distributed in China, and has been used to stop bleeding and resolve swelling as a famous TCM. It can treat epistaxis, hematemesis, hematuria and gynecological diseases. It has also been reported to have therapy effect on infectious hepatitis, arthritis and insomnia in recent years.From the 70%ethanol extract of C. setosum,20 compounds were isolated by means of chromatographic methods (repeated column chromatography on silica gel, preparative thin layer chromatography, ODS open column chromatography and Sephadex LH-20) and recrystallized method. On the basis of physico-chemical characters, chemical reactions and spectroscopic analysis,17 compounds were identified as:tricin (1), tricin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (2), acacetin (3), linarin (4), apigenin (5), apigenin-7-O-β-D-butylglucuronide (6), luteolin (7), rutin (8),5’-methoxyhydnocarpin-D (9), caffeic acid (10), courmaric acid (11), succinic acid (12), benzyl-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (13), uracil (14), taraxasterol acetate (15),β-sitosterol (16), daucosterol (17). Among them, compounds 2,9,12 and 13 were obtained from this genus for the first time, and compounds 1,7,11,14 and 15 were isolated from Cirsium setosum (Willd.) MB. firstly.In this paper, combined with the flavonolignan(compound 9) isolated from this genus for the first time, we summarized the research progress in the study of flavonolignans.
