This thesis is composed under the cross‐language and cross‐culture direction. In accordance with the main theories of comparing linguistic, cultural linguistic and teaching chinese as a second language, nagation phenominon is discussed by conducting a contrastive and comparative of study of negation in Chinese and in English.Chapters get great significance are chapter three, four and five. In chapter three,we process the contents in two dimensions, horizontally, accoding to the explictness,we divide all the objects we studied into two groups: explict negation&implict negation; vertically, the comparation goes in three levels of linguistic study: morphemes, words&phrases, sentence structures, namely, lexical and syntactic level are in the spotlight. To be specific, besides the discussion of morphemes, words&phrases,8typical fixed syntictical structures expressing negation are as well been disscussed. All in all, the most noticeable difference is that, in English, they do have more morphemes and affixes expressing negation than in Chinese; on the syntictical level, the differences are shown on the stucture of negation or the placement of the negators. Besides, another obvious thing is the divergence of the answers to Yes/No questions.Chapter4mainly talk over the resons that accouts for similarity&dissimilarity of negation expressions in English and in Chinese. Language and culture are taken into consideration, and how these elements influenced the negation expressions specificly have been listed.Chapter5is trying to make some practical suggestions and propasals on how to teach negation in class of TCSL. By applying Interlanguage Thoery we disscussed the types of error foreign students making during their study.
